Family Days Out
lots to do for the family

There are lots of family-friendly things to do near Nyth Robin. From beach days out, to exploring underground caves and riding steam railways!
Here are just a few ideas, and there’s more at Visit Mid Wales.
Corris Craft Centre
Just 20 minutes away, Corris Craft Centre showcases some of the best in local craft, where you can meet and chat to the artists.
For the kids, there are opportunities for hands-on fun activities in many of the craft workshops, including pottery painting, pottery throwing, candle dipping, chocolate making and furniture building. These activities are popular, so advance booking is recommended.
There’s also a great cafe, a play area and a maze, plus dogs are welcome too. A great day out for all the family.
King Arthur's Layrinth & Corris Mine Explorers
Located next to Corris Craft Centre is the popular King Arthur’s Labyrinth.
Here deep underground, you’ll sail through the magical veil of a waterfall into a legendary world awash with stories of dragons, giants, fierce battles and the legendary King Arthur.
Or adventure to the award-winning Corris Mine Explorers. These underground mine exploration trips take you deep beneath the mountains of southern Snowdonia and into a virtually untouched former Welsh slate mine.
Both of these are all-weather, enjoyable and engaging, and a perfect day out on a rainy day.
Tal Y Llyn Railway
Kids, young and old, will love the trip out on The Talyllyn Railway – a historic narrow-gauge steam railway, set in the beautiful Mid-Wales countryside.
The journey goes from Tywyn through the ancient woodlands and meadows of the Fathew Valley. En route, keep your eyes peeled for Red Kites, Cormorants, Barn Owl, Redstart, Peregrine Falcons, Wheatear, Linnet and Little Owl.
The cosy covered and open carriages provide the best of comfort and views as you travel up the line to Abergynolwyn. Here, the Quarryman’s Caban serves lovely homemade treats, drinks and snacks, and there’s even a play park while you wait for the return train.
Or stop off en route at Dol Goch Falls for an easy walk to a spectacular waterfall.
Borth Animilarium
This animal sanctuary provides a safe and welcoming home for both domestic and farm animals where you can come and meet these animals, pet them and even feed many of them!
There’s a cosy café where you can grab a bite to eat, a gift shop to buy souvenirs and play parks for the children.
They are open every day and are dog-friendly and wheelchair accessible.
Aberdyfi Village & Beach
You can’t beat a day at the seaside, and Aberdyfi’s family-friendly beach offers plenty of space for kids to run around and let off steam.
Or why not try some crabbing off the pier? You can borrow equipment from the handy crate nearby, just remember to take it back and leave it tidy for someone else to use.
And if they still have some energy, there’s a playground in the village too.
There are plenty of cafes, ice cream and fish & chips for when you need a bite to eat.
Family Walks
Getting out and about for a walk is a great low-cost activity that all the family will enjoy. These are some options that are great for all ages.
Mawddach Trail – This footpath and cycle route runs for 9.5miles/ 15km along a disused railway track on the southern edge of the spectacular Mawddach estuary. Its mostly flat surface makes this an ideal walk for families.
Coed Y Brenin Forest Park has many walking trails to discover, so there’s something for everyone and it is just a 40-minute drive from Nyth Robin. Dogs are allowed and must be kept under control.
